I have a soft spot for pretty visualizations of things I look at every day. I like that it shows me the same information from a varying perspective and that means I’ll likely gain new insight.
Like the LinkedIn maps, for example. Click here to create your own map. You sign in and does all the work for you, you just have to name the labels.
The information isn’t mind blowing but it’s interesting to see where all of my connections lie. The dark blue nodes are all my Toronto and Social Media contacts (likely many of my first contacts when I started in this business). I was surprised to see how many connections I had through Syncapse (dark orange). When I started there I was employee #50!
I started poking through some of the connections – when you click on a node, that person’s pathway will light up, you’ll “see” all of the other people in your network that they are connected to as well.
I think it’s important to look at most situations in life like this, from different perspectives. The information might not be mind-blowing but at least you’ll get to know yourself a little bit better.
